About Us/History

THE BEGINNING

Since the US cigar industry boom in the late 19th century, in Tampa and specifically Ybor City, coffee has played a supportive part in the city’s industrial boom.

In 1936, Anastasio Fernandez, an immigrant from Asturias, Spain, started a coffee roastery in the garage of his family home.  The business began as strictly an espresso roastery, but as Fernandez learned more about coffee and the origins of beans, his interest in providing consumers with high quality coffee from countries around the world grew.  Excited to spread his love of coffee-growing countries, he founded CCM Coffee, which focused on importing, roasting and shipping high quality beans in single origin, transporting customers around the world with unique flavor profiles cultivated by the soil, climate and labor each individual country produces.

Eventually CCM Coffee was run by Anastasio’s grandsons, Julian and Michael Faedo and their children, true pioneers in Tampa’s coffee culture.

THE PEREZ FAMILY

In 1972, Richard Perez, whose roots are from Cuba and whose family immigrated to Tampa to participate in the cigar industry, discovered the world of coffee through his first coffee employer in Ybor City, La Norma Coffee Company.  An entrepreneur at heart, Perez applied for and received an SBA loan and purchased a 25 pound batch roaster located in Miami and called his company BRISK COFFEE COMPANY.  Thus began the coffee journey of the Perez family.  Today, Brisk Coffee Roasters is a third generation owned and operated coffee roaster, specializing in gourmet coffee, ancillary products and services to the foodservice industry.  Richard Perez always admired the Faedo Family’s commitment to excellence in Tampa’s continuing coffee culture.

FAMILY IS EVERYTHING

When Julian and Michael Faedo were ready to retire, they wanted to continue their legacy of relevance and impact in Tampa’s coffee culture…and knew exactly who to call.

The only family they could trust CCM Coffee with was the Perez family, owners of Brisk Coffee Company, now Brisk Coffee Roasters, which had grown to a national supplier of coffee to the foodservice industry, run by Denise Perez Reddick, Richard Perez's daughter, Randy Gonzalez, Richard Perez’s Godson and Lucas Reddick, Richard Perez’s Grandson.  While Brisk Coffee has grown, the Faedo brothers knew that at its heart was a family owned and operated company who cared first and foremost about quality.

In the summer of 2023, The Faedo and Perez families completed the transaction to continue CCM Coffee, keep it Tampa and keep it Family.

THE DIFFERENCE EXPERIENCE AND FAMILY MAKES

Today, CCM Coffee customers are still amazed and delighted by the quality and freshness they receive with every bag of CCM Coffee they purchase.

Available to both consumers and businesses like coffee shops and restaurants, CCM Coffee improves the lives of its customers by making each of cup of coffee unique and delicious.  Like Julian Faedo said years ago, "We have been roasting coffee for over 60 years and customer satisfaction is our primary goal. We began building our reputation with the small hometown grocery stores and through the years our products have spread by word of satisfied customers. We continue that tradition today with our small and large customers."
